Touch The Sky Prairie

Touch the Sky Prairie

The Brandenburg Prairie Foundation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have purchased over 800 acres of untilled prairie land in Rock County, Minnesota, now known as the "Touch the Sky Northern Tallgrass Prairie National Wildlife Refuge."  Together, they have developed a 15-year management plan for its restoration.  With time and continued effort, hundreds of native species will return--the songbirds, flora and native wildlife.  The dream is to see the bison roaming "Touch the Sky Prairie" again.

If you would like to participate in permanent protection and restoration of the native prairie in southwest Minnesota, please become a member of the Brandenburg Praire Foundation.  Individual member fees are only $15.  With a donation of $50 or more, you will receive a copy of Jim Brandenburg's "Dream Back the Bison" poster.  To make a donation please contact:

Directions to "Touch the Sky Prairie"

At Hwy 75 stop light, drive north out of Luverne 4 miles on Highway 75 to the state park corner.  Take a left on the blacktop Rock County 20 and drive 3 miles west.  Take a right and drive 1 mile north.  There will be a "T" corner at the intersection.  The prairie is directly in front of you. There is a parking area to the west, at the top of the hill.  Feel free to get out and walk to prairie.  It is a total of 808 acres that are both north and south of the gravel road and parking area.
