Carnegie Cultural Center
Carnegie Cultural Center
205 N. Freeman Ave
507-283-8294

This structure was built in 1903 as the city library through a $10,000 gift from the philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. In 1992 the library was moved to a downtown location and the building was turned into the community cultural center, where art work could be displayed for public viewing, and where displays could be set up of artifacts depicting community history and local culture. Demonstrations of craft skills and entertainment by musicians, storytellers, and others are scheduled throughout the year.
The building entrance is flanked by Ionic columns, and inside features an arched quartzite fireplace and oak woodwork which enhances the building. The Council for the Arts and Humanities in Rock County is responsible for the center. The Rock County Fine Arts Association and the Rock County Historical Society are responsible for displays and shows at the center.
