The community is proud to have Jim Brandenburg, noted wildlife photographer, as one of its favorite sons. He began his photographic ventures from here and is currently residing in Ely, Minnesota where he still works every day on his photos and prints, all of his own work.
Jim, in cooperation with the Luverne Area Chamber of Commerce, opened a gallery of his work in downtown Luverne. The gallery consists of over 100 of Brandenburg’s photos. The gallery has a special area that is home to photos of the Blue Mounds State Park and the prairie of southwest Minnesota and the Dakotas. It also has an area that showcases many photos from his famous “Chased By The Light” and “Looking For The Summer” books, along with photos from his past.
Profits from the gallery are used to enhance native prairie in southwest Minnesota. Jim and a group from Luverne have formed the Brandenburg Prairie Foundation that has the responsibility of the prairie restoration as partners with the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
